Tom Holland Prediction As Spider-Man Years Ago Comes To Pass

Tom Holland is a fan favorite as Spider-Man, when compared to those who have come before him, but would you believe he actually predicted years ago that he would play the role of the webslinger? Spider-Man: Far From Home is killing it at the box office and that, in part, is due to Holland’s take on the superhero.

Tom Holland Predicted He’d Play Spider-Man

His Spidey senses might have been tingling all the way back in 2013, when Holland noted during an interview that he could play the role of Spider-Man. How did he know what was to come in his career?- Advertisement –

The interview clip landed on Reddit recently — a chat with Holland at the 2013 Empire Awards, where the actor was nominated for (and won) Best Male Newcomer for his film debut in 2012’s The Impossible.

During the interview, he was asked about the kind of role he’d want to do next and he explained how he was looking for something in a more action and comedy space. When asked if he’d want to play a superhero, Holland said yes, hoping that he could play Spider-Man in 10 years if there was a “reboot of the reboot.”

And that’s exactly what happened, as Holland went on to follow Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, landing the role of Peter Parker. Of course, it wasn’t 10 years later, as Marvel cast the actor in 2015, just two years after his prediction.

Holland first appeared as Spider-Man in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. He returned as Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame and, of course, in the standalone films Spider-Man: Homecomingand Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Did Chris Hemsworth Help Holland Land The Part?

Another MCU star claims he played a part in helping Holland land the coveted Spider-Man role — Chris Hemsworth recently shared that he “made a call” to Marvel producers after working with Holland.

Hemsworth explained during an interview with Entertainment Tonight: “We worked on In the Heart of the Sea together, then through Avengers. As they were casting him for Spider-Man, I did what I could do and made a call and said he’s one of the most talented people I’ve worked with and has such a big heart and appreciation.”

He added, “I don’t know, we have a great friendship. It’s a good mutual respect.”

Spider-Man: Far From Home Poised To Earn Big Bucks

Spider-Man: Far From Home had a huge opening, grossing $585 million worldwide in its first five days. Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for Comscore, noted: “In the wake of ‘Far From Home’s’ massive global opening week over-performance… the film is now riding a wave of momentum that should carry it through to the rarefied air of the $1 billion club.”

Jeremy Conrad, founder of the website MCU Cosmic, told Yahoo! Finance: “Spider-Man: Far From Home hitting $1 billion will be a very big deal as it will be the first Spider-Man film to reach that milestone, and it’s another reason why Sony will be smart to keep Spider-Man part of the MCU beyond the end of Tom Holland’s six-movie contract.”
